Friday Night Lights

We decided to get Katy clear wireless internet and now we can stream Netflix right to our wireless Blu-Ray player in our bedroom. We got a wireless blu-ray player from our parent’s for Valentine’s day and decided that we needed to upgrade our internet service. Now, my husband and I have really gotten into watching a show on Netflix. We have already gone through the first twenty-two episodes of the first season. The show that we have been watching is off the air and ended last year after five seasons. The show is called “Friday Night Lights”. It is about a small town football team in Texas. I read that the show was loosely based on the experience of a real small town football team in Odessa, Texas. Everyone in the town eats, sleeps, and breathes “Panther Football”. Apart from the football aspect of the show, it has a pretty good story line and keeps you wanting to watch more and more! For my husband to get into watching a high school show—you know that it has to be good!
She Hit A HOMERUN!
March 7, 2012 on 2:47 pm | In Some of This Some of That | Comments OffThat’s right, the Title says it all! My daughter hit her very first (and hopefully not her last) over the fence homerun! It made it all the sweeter that she did it in the championship game of a 2 day tournament against a team that is in the district, an arch enemy so to speak!
Her at bat started with 2 failed bunt attempts and it didn’t look good. But she hung in there fouling off pitch after pitch and eventually got to a full count. It was one of the longest at bats I’ve watched in a long time and the entire crowd was held in suspense. The pitcher was showing her frustration as my daughter remained calm, fouling off at least 10. Then, the pitcher put one right down the middle and WHAM! That yellow ball went sailing over the centerfield fence and kept going for a 2 run homerun! Here we are, 4 days later and I’m still excited about it!

March 1, 2012 on 12:47 pm | In Some of This Some of That | Comments OffMy mom and aunt have decided to take a cruise, something they’ve done in the past, but this time, they’re going to Alaska! I’m personally not a cruise person, but this is the one cruise I’ve always wanted to take. I am so excited for them and I plan to make sure my mom has a working camera to take on her trip in the fall!
I spoke with my mom just the other day and she told me she was having trouble finding airfare into Seattle. I told her to hang in there, the fares fluctuate almost daily, so she’s bound to find something. If she can’t get directly into Seattle, maybe she could make a detour through another city and even make an extended vacation out of it. I just saw apartments for rent in Edmonton and that would be a beautiful area to take some time to explore. She is retired after all, so she can take all the time she wants!
I know their cruise is set for September, not sure of any other details. I think you have to go for a minimum of a week to get to see even half of the beautiful sights that Alaska has to offer, 2 weeks would be even better. I would love to take the 14 day cruise and include the inland railway on that trip. What about you, have you ever taking the Alaskan cruise?

February 28, 2012 on 2:43 pm | In Crafting | Comments OffI spent this past weekend creating hair bows for my daughter’s high school softball team. Each player gets assigned dates to bring hair bows for the team and her first date is Thursday. She picked out the ribbon, she thought the farm animals was fun, it has absolutely nothing to do with softball!
Anyway, I hope the girls enjoy them, they begin a 2 day tournament on Thursday, so they’ll be able to wear these for multiple games.

February 22, 2012 on 11:00 am | In Some of This Some of That | Comments OffYou know, I used to be a very organized person. However, it seems that since the majority of my time now seems to be spent on the computer, I have less desire to keep my paperwork organized (because I’d rather be surfing the web). The problem is, I end up creating more paper for myself than I actually need because I tend to write things down as I find them on the internet. I know I could bookmark things, but I’ve tried that. Then my computer died and I lost all my bookmarks and I became very frustrated! So, I went back to writing things down. Now I have lists and lists of websites. What a pain in the behind!
Imagine my enthusiasm when I discovered clipix. This is exactly what I needed, a tool that helps me to organize my online life! It operates so simply, just imagine yourself opening a file drawer and dropping in that document into a manila file folder. Only now, you find a web page that you want to save for later, “file it away” so to speak. Just click “Clip” in your tool bar and tell clipix which file drawer, or clipboard, you want to keep it on. DONE!
You get to name your own clipboards, just as if you were putting a label on that manila folder and the drawer itself. The first thing I did was to create a clipboard for softball. When we leave the house, it’s usually for softball, so I have all sorts of things I’d love to keep on file, especially maps to the various softball fields, tournament information, hotels, etc. This is perfect and here’s a screenshot of the “softball” clipboard I just created for myself. Now I don’t have to search over & over again for these same links like I have in the past.
Clipboards I might create would include, travel, restaurants, recipes, school and others. What would you have clipboards for? You should definitely check out this video to see how easy it is to use.
I like that I can make my clipboards private, I don’t really think anyone else is interested in my filing, but if I want to, I can share. For example, if my sisters & I are planning another family get together, we can share a clipboard called a Syncboard, where we can view & share information with each other. I really like that idea. There is even an iPhone app that will allow me to take my clipboards with me when we are out on the road.
It took me all of about 30 seconds to sign up for and to begin using it. You should give it a try too, it’s super easy and so worth the little bit of effort involved!
Bursitis
February 21, 2012 on 4:46 pm | In Some of This Some of That | Comments OffSo, my daughter hasn’t been so good about taking her anti-inflammatory medication. Although, when she did remember to take it, the pain in her shoulder was greatly reduced. So, at her 4 week follow up yesterday with the orthopedic doctor, he wound up giving her an injection of cortisone. I know it hurt and she is feeling some discomfort a day later, I do think it was the right direction to take.
Hopefully now, she will start to feel more relief and I think she realizes that she MUST take her medication in order for it to work. In addition, she MUST do her physical therapy exercises if she wants to get better.
She won’t be playing softball for school tonight, she will be sitting the bench. That’s not easy to do, but it’s doctor’s orders. Hopefully, this will be the only game she has to miss.

Ready for the Weekend
February 6, 2012 on 10:15 am | In Some of This Some of That | Comments OffI know, I know! It’s only Monday, we just had the weekend, but I’m all ready ready for the coming weekend! I can’t help it!
As soon as I dropped my daughter off at school this morning, before I had even gotten off the campus, she was calling me to tell me she had left her softball equipment at home. This is not good since I had just left her at the athletic dept. for softball! I had to rush home, grab her bag and rush back to give it to her. That just got my day started off wrong and it’s continued that way ever since.
Heading out now to pick her up and take her to physical therapy, hope that goes well, maybe my day will turn around!
Save Money on Prescriptions
February 5, 2012 on 1:00 pm | In Some of This Some of That | Comments OffThis post brought to you by Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.
Honestly, I don’t know how some people pay for their prescription medications. I feel horrible for those that don’t have health insurance to help defray some of these costs.
I take a daily medication for high cholesterol. I inherited this condition so, although I tried, diet and exercise had very little affect. The only way my doctor & I could manage my high cholesterol is through medication which I pay over $600 a year for and I DO have prescription coverage!
Walgreens Prescription Savings Club is a great way for those with little to no prescription coverage to be able to afford their medications. For a mere $35 a year, a family membership will cover everyone in your immediate family including your spouse and dependent children up to age 22. An individual can get a membership for only $20 a year. Plus, get this, it also covers prescription medications for your pets! I know of no other health insurance program that will do that!
Benefits of membership includes savings on all types of medications including both brand name and generic. Members also receive discounts on flu shots, nebulizers and diabetic supplies. Plus, members earn bonuses on purchases of Walgreens brand products and photofinishing services.
Be sure to support Walgreens in their efforts to help everyone afford their medications. “Like” Walgreens on Facebook and follow Walgreens on Twitter.
More Medical Insurance Woes
February 2, 2012 on 12:29 pm | In Some of This Some of That | Comments OffMy daughter recently had her MRI of which, we had to personally pay over $500. I immediately submitted our costs for reimbursement from our Health Savings account. It was denied. Why? Because the receipt did not specifically state what it was for, i.e., MRI. It had everything else, but no, it didn’t say MRI. So now I’m scrambling, got an online copy of our EOB from the insurance which DOES say MRI and shows our cost. I managed to download it from their website and upload it to the HSA website this morning, so hopefully, we’ll get the reimbursement before the credit card payment is due in 2 weeks. What a total pain in the ass!
