High School
August 26, 2011 on 5:16 pm | In Some of This Some of That | 1 CommentSo, school started on Monday and I have to say, I really miss my daughter!
She is a sophomore in high school and let me tell you, if she’s not at school, she’s with her friends, or her friends are with her here at the house. She just seems to have something going all the time. Tonight she is spending the night at a friends, so I can’t even see her now!
I will spend some time with her tomorrow morning at a fundraiser for her softball team, but that may be it for the weekend. She is aware that she has some chores to get done over the weekend, so I may get to see her in the house while she gets those done, but who knows!
My husband has informed me that I just need to get used to it!
Seeing dancing Harry Potter on Broadway
August 23, 2011 on 11:21 am | In Family Health | Comments OffGuest post written by Theresa Luckas
I feel like my kids have grown up with the Harry Potter series, along with Daniel Radcliffe. Although, my kids aren’t quite as old as he is. I’ve grown to love the series just as much as they have and when we started planning a trip to New York this summer, my daughter said that he had to go and see Daniel Radcliffe on Broadway.
I thought that was a great idea and decided to start shopping for show tickets a little early online. While I was looking up different prices on different sites, I ran across the site http://hearingaids.miracle-ear.com/hearing-locations/california/c/canyon-lake/. I looked through it a little bit and after that I decided to sign up for a hearing aid test. I took it before our trip and got fitted with some hearing aids.
I was really glad to have them because we ended up in the cheap seats in the play. But, every seat in the house is always great, so we were able to see everything pretty well. Now my kids can say that they’ve seen Harry Potter in real life!
Getting a College Education
August 14, 2011 on 9:20 am | In Family | Comments OffMy daughter, a sophomore in high school, has every intention of attending college. The problem right now is, she has absolutely no idea what colleges she might be interested in or what she might like to study once she gets there. Now I realize that we have a couple of years before she has to finalize any decisions, but it is really amazing how quickly time flies by and I want her to be thinking about these things now so she’s not feeling pressured to make those decisions her senior year of high school.
She & i met with the college counselor at the high school the other day and it was a very informative meeting. I really just wanted to find out a way to start narrowing down the thousands of possibilities of where she might like to go. We’re not ruling anything out just yet, including Walden University’s online degree programs. I checked out online degree programs for myself a few years ago and these programs have really come along way in the last few years. The internet is so incredible now that it can be a great way to learn and get a college degree.
I have recently heard a lot about WaldenU.edu and want to keep it on our list of possibilities., not just for my daughter, but for myself! Continuing my own education is always in the back of my mind, so, who knows, maybe I will take advantage of all this technology and finish my own degree. Whether it’s for my daughter or for myself, I definitely plan to visit their website to learn about Walden and the degree programs they offer. You just never know, if my daughter decides to go across country for college, I can finish my own degree from the comfort of my family room!
Anyway, the college counselor gave us a lot of material to look through to help us out. Guess I’ll be spending the next couple of weeks going through that.
Another Band Camp
August 9, 2011 on 12:28 pm | In Family | Comments OffI feel as if school has all ready started, even though the official first day isn’t until August 22.
My daughter started band camp this past Friday. Band camp is where they learn their marches and music for the Fall season. They basically only have 2 weeks to learn their first march that will be performed in front of parents the Friday before school starts. They also have to learn all of the music they will be playing in the stands at the football games. It’s a lot of work, but the end result is so worth it!
Do you have kids in the marching band?
App Helps Find Your Phone
August 3, 2011 on 7:01 pm | In Some of This Some of That | Comments OffThis post brought to you by Sprint. All opinions are 100% mine.
Have you ever lost your cell phone? I’ve misplaced mine, but never actually lost it. My daughter on the other hand, left her cell phone laying in a retail store fitting room. By the time she realized it, the phone was gone, pick up by another customer and never returned. I had to cancel service on the phone and go through the entire ordeal of getting her a new phone, what a pain!
With the Sprint Total Equipment Protection App I wouldn’t have to worry about my teenager repeating her mistake. Current Sprint customers have until August 30 to download this app which helps you locate your phone, no more worrying about it being lost or stolen. The app can even remotely lock your phone and sound an alarm, making it useless to would be thieves. By the way, the Sprint Total Equipment Protection App doesn’t just cover lost or stolen phones, it also covers phones that are damaged or begin to malfunction, even after the manufacturer warranty is expired. My husband once dropped his phone in water, this program sure would’ve helped!
The cost of the Sprint Total Equipment Protection App is $8 per month and has a deductible of either $50 or $100. Of course, we all know, this is much less than the cost of a brand new phone. Remember, current Sprint subscribers only have until August 30, 2011 to download the app.
Happy Birthday!
August 1, 2011 on 3:30 pm | In Some of This Some of That | Comments OffA belated Happy Birthday post to my husband who celebrated his big day on Saturday!!
My daughter & I surprised him by taking him to Austin for the weekend. We spent Saturday casually tubing down the Guadalupe River, a super hot day in some refreshingly cool water. All three of us came out of the river with some bad sunburns, but well worth it. We really had a very nice day together and it was a great way to celebrate his birthday.
