Online Shopping for Back to School

August 22, 2009 on 9:17 am | In Family | Comments Off

I took my daughter and her friend to the mall a couple of days ago so they could shop for clothes for back to school. School here in North Texas starts this coming Monday and my daughter feels she doesn’t have a thing to wear, even though we’ve been shopping, and shopping, and shopping… well, you get the picture. This last trip to the mall was exhausting, even though I spent most of the 4 hours sitting, waiting it out. My daughter was disappointed with what she found though and wound up only purchasing a few shirts, still feeling like she has nothing to wear.

This morning, I’m going to introduce my daughter to Zappos.com because I really think she could find just about anything she would like for back to school clothing. She can shop Burton to find tops, bottoms and everything in between. I know that one of the most difficult items she’s been searching for is a tote bag. She’s going into 8th grade and doesn’t want a typical backpack. Last year she used a satchel and this year she wants a simple tote bag. We’ve actually purchased two, returned one and one is still sitting there as a possibility. The one she kept will work, but it’s not exactly what she was looking for. So, I definitely want her to look online before she makes her final decision.

I feel confident in purchasing from Zappos.com because the offer free shipping, including the shipping to return an item and they have a 365 day return policy. Burton is a quality sportswear and sports equipment company powered by Zappos.com.

Do your kids have everything they need for back to school?

WordPress Upgrade

August 19, 2009 on 10:14 am | In Blogging | Comments Off

I realize technology is always a work in progress, but all of the recent WordPress upgrades are exhausting.  Less than a week after updating both of my blogs to WP version 2.8.3, I started receiving the message that 2.8.4 is available!

Don’t get me wrong, I love WordPress, it’s user friendly and you don’t have to be a tech geek to write a post or include a link or photo.  But, I do wish the kinks would be worked out BEFORE publishing a new update.  Updating blogs takes time, something I seem to have very little of lately!

Do you use WordPress?  What version are you currently using?

Searching for New Web Host

August 1, 2009 on 5:31 pm | In Blogging | Comments Off

I have to first apologize for my absence. There are several reasons for me being gone, the usual busy family life, etc., but mostly it’s been because I’m somewhat dissatisfied with my current web host and have been rather frustrated. I find them difficult to work with when they suddenly shut my blog down. When I call their customer service to find out what’s going on (because they’ve never informed me of any problem), I’m told that my blog is “pounding the box” and I would need to fix things before it would be reinstated.

Hmmm, let’s talk about this. First of all, I am a paying customer; I am not using a free web host. Secondly, I have absolutely no idea what “pounding the box” means, so how am I supposed to fix the problem? Finally, if my blog is shut down and I’m locked out of my site, how exactly am I expected to get into anything to fix anything even if I knew how and what to fix?

Okay, that’s it for the big web host vent, now I’m shopping for a new web host and website hosting shopping is made much easier by visiting a site like webhostinggeeks.com where they compare and provide independent reviews of all the top web hosting companies. I simply visited Webhosting Geeks, clicked on the Best Blog Hosting link and found plenty of useful information to help me make a decision as to what company I’m going to choose.

If you’re looking for a new company for website hosting, I do recommend visiting Web Hosting Geeks to get you started.
