How Intelligent is Barrack Obama?

October 24, 2008 on 8:43 am | In Some of This Some of That | Comments Off

I don’t really discuss politics on this site, but, it is everywhere we turn right now and is of the utmost importance in our country.  We need to make the right choice in 2 weeks for our future.

This was in an email I received this morning:

Barack Obama was seated next to a little girl on an airplane  He turned to

her and said, ‘Let’s talk. I’ve heard that flights go quicker if you strike up a

conversation with your fellow passenger.’

The little girl, who had just  opened her book, closed it slowly and said to

the Obama, ‘What would you like to  talk about?’

‘Oh, I don’t know,’ said the Obama. ‘How about What Changes I  Should Make To

America?’ and he smiles.

‘OK, ‘ she said. ‘That could be an  interesting topic. But let me ask you a

question first. A horse, a cow, and a  deer all eat the same stuff – grass – .

Yet a deer excretes little pellets,  while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a

horse produces clumps of dried  grass.

Why do you suppose that is?’

Obama, visibly surprised by the  little girl’s intelligence, thinks about i t

and says, ‘Hmmm, I  have no idea.’

To which the little girl replies, ‘Do you really feel  qualified to change

America when you don’t know  shit?

Speaking of Dermatology

October 23, 2008 on 10:02 pm | In Family Health | Comments Off

It’s late, but suddenly I was thinking about an earlier post. I was talking about skin care in an earlier post which made me think of Martin Sands, founder of Dermatology Associates, P.C. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa School of Medicine and has his own private practice in the Waterloo and Cedar Falls, Iowa area.

Having a girl who has seen a few small signs of acne, and me with my aging skin, it’s always good to know where to go for good doctor.

Anyway, it was a random thought and I typed it out as I was passing by the computer on my way to bed. Think I’ll go on to bed now!

Fastpitch Softball – Success!

October 23, 2008 on 10:31 am | In Family, My Imagination | 4 Comments

Just when my daughter was about to give up on continuing to play fastpitch softball, she found a team!

Before we moved from Chicago, my daughter was on a “select” travel team and was learning so much.  She had begun playing in the park district league and really had a love of the game.  She was fortunate in getting good coaches who were able to teach her good techniques.

Unfortunately, after moving to Texas, we had difficulty finding a team that had an opening for another player, or, wasn’t SO competitive.  Some of the teams here are so intense, the girls don’t even look like they’re enjoying themselves, it is only about winning.  My daughter was very intimidated by it all.

She spent the spring playing for the local park district, but her skills were going down because the skill levels of the other girls were not so good.  We did get her on with a pitching coach and that helped, but we just couldn’t find a good team.  Until a few weeks ago.

We ran into a parent of a former team member who told us about a “select” team his daughter had just joined.  My husband took my daughter a few days later to work out with the team, and she loved it.  She had so much fun, the coaches and other team members were all great.  Not only were they working hard, but they were having fun doing it.  She was asked to join the team and, without hesitation, did so.

They played a double header last night, and, in the first game, my daughter made her first appearance as a pitcher on this team.  She was very nervous, but she did an excellent job.  She came in during the 2nd inning with 2 outs and 2 girls on base.  She immediately threw 2 strikes and then the batter got a piece of the next pitch.  It was an infield hit and the short stop snapped it up and threw it to 1st for the final out of the inning.  It was AWESOME!

She pitched the next 2 innings without flaw.  2 pitches were hit by batters right back at her and she was able to grab them and throw to 1st to make the outs.  She was really on top of her game last night and I think she was having so much fun.  She didn’t pitch in the 2nd game, but that’s okay, she got her first time up out of the way and now all of the nerves and butterflies can settle down.

I’m just so happy for her to have found a softball home!

High Winds of Fall Equal Dry Skin

October 22, 2008 on 1:49 pm | In Family Health | Comments Off

Our temperatures here in North Texas are finally dropping today. It’s almost the end of October and it hasn’t felt at all like Fall around here. The leaves are all still green and we’ve been wearing shorts just about every day. Of course, with the cooler temperatures comes the dryer air which brings on the dry skin.

I’ve stocked up on my favorite skin care croducts and say bring it on! I use everything from anti-aging skin creams to mineral makeup to keep my skin looking good, I don’t want it dry and cracked just because the weather is changing. I like to know that the things I use on my body, are made with the finest ingredients and yes, I’m a label reader.

How do you alleviate dry skin?

Vet Visit

October 21, 2008 on 8:19 am | In Dog Sense | 8 Comments

We had to take our precious Plinko to the vet yesterday. She has a bump above her eye, in her eyebrow, that has been bothering her. It’s not painful, but she does rub it with her paw, and that rubbing action causes it to bleed. She’s also rubbing the fur off. It was really starting to look bad, so my daughter and I took her to the vet.

He said he wasn’t really sure what it was, other than being inflamed. He gave her a shot to help with the discomfort in an effort to get her to stop rubbing it. He also prescribed 7 days worth of pills for the same reason. If she’ll stop rubbing, it may just go away. Let’s hope!

Did You Know – Cindy McCain Distributes Beer

October 18, 2008 on 3:31 pm | In Some of This Some of That | Comments Off

I believe this information was discussed in the news back in September, I’m not sure where I was, but I just heard about it the other night on the national news.

Cindy McCain, wife of Republican Presidential Nominee John McCain, is the Chairwoman of Hensley, this nation’s third largest Anheuser-Busch distributor.  According to the tax return that was released to the public a few days ago and covering a period of 2 years, most of the McCain family money, over $36 million, comes from Mrs. McCain’s work with the distributor which is based in Arizona and was founded by her father, James Hensley.

Personally, I like Cindy McCain.  I believe her to be a strong, honest woman who has had her own personal battles to deal with and has come out victorious.

Final Presidential Debate

October 16, 2008 on 9:33 am | In Some of This Some of That | 1 Comment

Last night was the final presidential debate between John McCain and Barrack Obama. With just a few short weeks left before the election, it was very important to both candidates to get their points across and reach out to the American voters, so many who are still undecided.

In case you missed the debate, you may watch it here in its entirety.

How We Found Our Puppy

October 15, 2008 on 10:20 am | In Dog Sense | 1 Comment

After moving to Texas last year, we decided we would get a dog. This dog would be our daughter’s dog, so she was put in charge of deciding what kind of dog she would like to have. She did a lot of research and finally settled on the Puggle breed. The job of finding a puggle puppy fell to me.

I have to say, thank goodness for the internet, because I was able to find breeders around the country and narrowed in on those within driving distance. I then made contact with several breeders and got photos of available pups, etc. There really was a lot of legwork involved.

If I had to do it again, I would more than likely use the services of Happiness is Pets, a company designed to help families find the perfect pet. They not only have one of the largest selections of puppies in the Chicago area, but they also carry pet toys supplies to help you get all set up and ready to adopt your new baby.

While the internet was a huge help, it would be nice to have a single place to go to find that perfect pet, if I didn’t all ready have one!
