New Job
September 16, 2008 on 9:05 pm | In Finance | 3 CommentsI’ve done it. I’ve gone out and gotten myself a job. I had thought I would do this after the holidays, but this position came to my attention and I decided to give it a shot.
I will be attending a 6 hour orientation tomorrow, then a 7 week in house training that starts Monday. Once I’ve completed the 7 weeks, I will be working from home. I’m not nervous about the job itself, or about working from home. I am nervous about the technology end of it. I have to install a couple of pieces of equipment to my computer and internet in order to work from home. The equipment is provided by the employer, but I have to do the installation. I’m not very good with that sort of thing, so I am nervous about it.
Anyway, hopefully they provide us with detailed instructions on how to get up and running from home and everything will work itself out. Wish me luck!

September 14, 2008 on 8:55 pm | In Some of This Some of That | 1 CommentHurricane Ike has come and gone, leaving a path of destruction in hardest hit Galveston and then north to Houston. Forecasts predicted it would then head north, straight to the east side of Dallas. Thankfully for us, it went further East than predicted and so, while we did get rain yesterday and some winds, it was nothing like what was forcasted.
While I am thankful that Dallas was spared, my prayers are sent to those who have suffered property damage or injury due to the hurricane.

September 12, 2008 on 1:56 pm | In Family Health | 1 CommentIs your current home ready for you as you get older? As we age, our requirements and needs change, will your current home be able to accommodate your needs?
We had neighbors in Illinois who had their entire home custom built with the needs of the elderly in mind. This was their retirement home and they have every intention of living out the rest of their lives in that home. Obviously we can’t predict what our needs may be as we age, but they had certainly done an amazing job of thinking ahead.
Although both of them are 100% healthy now, they built the home to be accessible by wheel chair, should one be needed in the future. The floor plan included wider halls and door ways as well as countertops that would accommodate a wheel chair. The floors flowed from one room to another so that it would be easy to get themselves throughout the home. The light switches were slightly lower on all of the wall to make them easy to reach whether you’re standing or sitting in a wheel chair. The faucets all had handles that were easy to turn should they suffer from arthritis. Even the bathrooms were roomy to move around in and the master bath included a walk in bathtub for easier access.
Everything they’ve done, right down to the smallest detail, was done to allow them to maintain their independence, even as they get older. I believe that is very smart planning.
Quote For the Day
September 12, 2008 on 8:55 am | In Some of This Some of That | 5 CommentsI received this in an email and it brought a smile to my face.
Quote for the day:
“Whatever you give a woman, she is going to multiply. If you give her sperm, she’ll give you a baby. If you give her a house, she’ll give you a home. If you give her groceries, she’ll give you a meal. If you give her a smile, she’ll give you her heart. She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her. So – if you give her any crap, you will receive a ton of shit.”
Autos With or Without Power Steering
September 11, 2008 on 8:19 pm | In Some of This Some of That | 1 CommentHave you ever driven a car without power steering? I have and I’m here to tell you it’s not easy and it’s not fun!
It’s been years ago when I had a car that had a leak in the power steering and the fluid drained out leaving me with a vehicle that was very difficult to drive. Fortunately for me, I was able to get it repaired and back to normal. Vehicle maintenance is very important as is power steering. Should you ever find yourself in need of power steering rack parts check out www.powersteeringpros.com and get parts with a full warranty and free shipping.

September 11, 2008 on 8:01 pm | In Some of This Some of That | 3 CommentsOkay, I’m trying to keep this quiet, but I’m excited and nervous at the same time and I thought maybe writing it down would help me to calm down.
Here’s the deal. I’m going for a job interview tomorrow! It’s sort of odd because my husband and I were just talking last week about the fact that after the new year, I’d probably try to find a part time job to help pay off some bills. I was thinking of going to Target or some place like that.
Then, while blog hopping, I ran across a “work at home” opportunity that really caught my attention. This is a legitimate opportunity with a major (well known) corporation. If hired, I will receive 7 weeks of paid training and then work from home 20 hours per week. I submitted my online application yesterday and received an email this afternoon inviting me to a testing/interview session tomorrow!
I know I’m qualified for the position, I’m not worried about that. I am nervous though that it will turn out to be something I don’t like. It’s pretty simple and I really want it to work. It would also allow me to stay home and keep working on my sewing projects. I’m looking forward to finding out more information tomorrow and seeing where this might lead. The only person I’ve even told any of this to is my husband, I don’t want to jinx it!
So, wish me luck!

September 11, 2008 on 10:42 am | In Some of This Some of That | 2 CommentsToday is a day that I will never forget. As my daughter sat at the kitchen table eating her breakfast, getting ready for a day of kindergarten, I had the television on, tuned to the Today show. I was staring at the screen as the 2nd plane hit the World Trade Center tower and was horrified.

Cutting Fat From Our Diet
September 9, 2008 on 9:56 pm | In Family Health | 1 CommentTwo weeks ago I had my cholesterol levels checked as part of my health exam. I learned that, unfortunately, my total cholesterol level is high and my LDL (bad) cholesterol is also high. My doctor immediately recommended a diet low in fats and carbohydrates which I have been implementing ever since.
I have to go in a few weeks to have it tested again. I’m hoping that by reducing fat and carbs in my daily diet, I will see a reduction in both the total and LDL levels of my cholesterol. Due to the fact that high cholesterol seems to run in my family, there is a good chance that I will end up having to take medication to get it under control though. Of course, either way, cutting fats and carbs in my daily diet is still beneficial. In less than 2 weeks, I’ve lost 4 pounds. Now, that is almost as good as a lap-band Houston procedure.
