End of Year Surprise

I failed to mention in my previous post that my husband and I gave our daughter a surprise as a reward for all of her hard work this year. It was really a tough year because we had just moved here and she was new to the school district and didn’t know anyone. She’d left all of her friends behind.

We’re very proud of how she’s handled so much change at such a young age. This surprise was something I’ve tried to get her as a gift the last two Christmases, but could never get my hand on one. A month or so ago, I had the opportunity to buy it and I jumped at the chance. It is a bit extravagant, but we feel she deserves it and we’ll all get a lot of enjoyment out of it. We gave her a Wii.

My husband got the new Wii all set up last night and we watched my daughter play all of the sports games that came with the system. It was so funny. There was tennis, golf, bowling, softball, and boxing. What surprised me the most was how good she did at boxing! She KO’d her opponent in no time.

It surprised me because over the years, I’ve tried to get her to take martial arts classes and she wanted nothing to do with it. I realize that boxing and martial arts are two different things, but they are somewhat similar. No matter, her decision meant that I never had to buy Martial Arts Supplies or boxing supplies. It makes me wonder if there is MMA gear (mixed martial arts) for Wii.

I have a feeling that we’ll be out purchasing Wii supplies very soon, including another controller!

  1. Wow. That’s a great surprise! I’m hoping we can get one this Christmas for Leia. She keeps saying she is fine with her gamecube, but I know she would LOVE a Wii.

We got her a fedora/Indiana Jones hat for the end of the year. She loves it and wears it everywhere. Really. I think she is a bigger fan than me!

  2. Lynn – I’ve tried for the past to Christmases to get the Wii for our daughter and could never get my hands on one. I got this one online a couple of months ago and just couldn’t pass it up because I know how hard they are to find. I did consider holding it until Christmas, but we just couldn’t wait that long!

  3. I stood in line for two hours one Sunday morning in October to get a Wii for my son as a reward for passing his five hour black belt test in Tae Kwon Doe. It’s amazing how hard they are to get. How did you get yours? If I wanted one for Christmas I’d begin strategizing NOW.

  4. So, did you get the Wii after standing in line for over two hours? I got ours over the internet. It was a bundled package through an email offer. I’m so glad I got it, even my husband, who NEVER plays video games, is enjoying it!
