Lasik Surgery
May 23, 2008 on 8:47 pm | In Some of This Some of That | 4 CommentsMy niece had lasik surgery a few months ago. She’s very happy with the results and her insurance paid for it which made her even happier. My sister had it done several years ago, her insurance did not cover it, but she felt it was worthwhile, she’d worn glasses since she was very young and looked forward to no longer having to wear them. She’s been very happy with her decision.
I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 25 and contacts since I was about 30. The last couple of years I’ve had trouble wearing contacts simply because my eyes are so dry. That just means I’m pretty much always wearing my glasses now, it’s very rare that I don’t have them on.
I could get Lasik in Walnut Creek which is not too far from where my mother-in-law lives, near San Fransisco. I just am not comfortable with the idea of “surgery”. I know that it’s rare to have complications, but I have fears that can’t be overcome. I also know that with aging, corrective lenses will more than likely be necessary some time afterwards anyway. I’m probably just full of excuses, but I think my husband would probably jump at the chance if I told him our insurance paid at least part of it. Lasik Walnut Creek would probably finance whatever the insurance wouldn’t cover
Sadly, the biggest benefit for me would be being able to wear some of the beautiful and really cool sunglasses I see. I found a pair of $75 Brighton’s a few weeks ago and I really would have like to have splurged on them. I didn’t, don’t worry. Since I rarely wear my contacts anymore, I didn’t see the point.
How about you? Have you had or would you consider having lasik?

May 23, 2008 on 4:40 am | In Family | 7 CommentsMy daughter’s fastpitch softball team is currently in the end of season tournament. There are only 4 teams in her age division and it’s double elimination. They went into the tournament in 2nd place having lost only one game during the season, a very good record.
Tuesday night they played the 3rd place team and won, it was not their best game, but they did win. Last night they played the 1st place team. This team had beaten our girls once in pre-season and once during the regular season, they’re only loss. Our team had beaten them once during the regular season, their only loss. So, last night was a huge game.
It was very exciting, my daughter pitched the entire game. The first inning ended with a score of 0-0, almost unheard of in this age group, there are usually a lot of walks and steals. The second inning was a little tougher, our team scored 4 while they were at bat and they scored 2. The third inning we scored another 2, but then they came out and got lucky. With 2 outs, bases loaded, a batter hit out to center field. Our center fielder was right on the ball when the ball met the exact spot where the grass meets the dirt of the infield. The ball popped up over her head and rolled several feet behind her. By the time she was able to recover the ball and throw it in, they had scored 5 runs to make the score 6-7, their lead.
Top of the 4th, our first two batter are out. We finally get a batter on base and she ends up stealing all the way to 3rd. The coach tells her to run home on a catcher dropped ball and she ended up being tagged out at home plate. The game was over. We lost 6-7 in one of the best games I’ve seen played at this age level. If it hadn’t been for that unfortunate ball hop in center field, I really believe our girls would have won the game.
Oh well, that’s softball!
