Valentine’s Day Decorating

Do you decorate your home for Valentine’s Day? I see many homes with heart in the windows, but I don’t really see much else. Perhaps it’s because many of us just recently got all of our Christmas decorations taken down and put away. I for one don’t have the desire to do all that again so soon, do you?

Speaking of holiday decorations, the final items to be taken down after Christmas were all of the lights, both inside the house, on the tree, and those outside in the bushes and on the deck railing. I can’t get over how many strands of lights we own, we probably spent a couple hundred dollars on buying lights this year and our goal is to add more each year. I’m hoping that with the new LED lights, we won’t have to buy so many replacement strands each year and can just add to what we all ready have.

Now, what do you with those light strands that don’t work anymore. Obviously we could just toss them in the trash, that would be the easiest answer. But, with all of us trying to be more green and eco-friendly, it’s nice to know that there is a Christmas light recycling program available. HolidayLEDs.com had originally planned to only accept LED lights for recycling through the end of January, but they’ve had such an enormous response to their program that they’ve decided to recycle holiday lights indefinitely, as long as people continue to participate. If the fact that this program has all ready processed over 3,000 pounds of lights is any indication, this recycling program will be going on for a long while!

So, if you do find yourself with strands of LED lights that no longer work, don’t just throw them away, get them recycled!
