Reporting Spam Blogs

It’s bad enough to receive spam in your email in-box, it’s even worse to have a spam blog steal your content. There doesn’t seem to be any real answer to solving this problem, although many bloggers, including myself, use a variety of tools to fight spam blogs.

A couple of the methods I personally use on my blogs to combat the splogger are akismet, a plug-in to capture spam comments and await blog owner approval or deletion, and the Math Comment Spam Protection plug-in. With this second plug-in, anyone leaving a comment must complete a simple math equation before being allowed to submit their comment. This sets humans apart from spam bots.

Even with all of the precautions we bloggers take, it happens almost daily, our content winds up on a spam blog. Why? Spam blogs are attempting to earn money online via advertising. They are lazy and don’t want to write their own content, they simply want cash. In other words, greed.

In an effort to combat spam blogs read this article on Google Adsense making it possible to report spam blogs. Paid advertisers do not want their ads on spam blogs, so this method of reporting them may just work. That is, if Google is serious about fighting spam blogs.

Thanks to the Chief Procrastinator for pointing out this great article.

  1. That’s great to know. I’m going to do that next time I get another one of those trackbacks.

  2. JMom – I’m so glad we finally have a way to fight back. It makes me sick when I see a post I wrote, on one of those spammy sites.
