Polar Bears

Over the weekend I was thrilled to hear that the U.S. government was going to make a ruling on the plight of the Polar bear. The plan was to add the Polar Bear to the endangered species list, an extremely important step in protecting both the bear and its habitat.

The scientific petition to have the Polar bear listed as endangered was submitted to the administration in February, 2005. One year later, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service determined that the listing of the Polar bear as endangered “may be warranted”. In December of 2007, the same agency proposed to list the species as threatened. By law, they then had one year to make a final decision. That year has now passed. 1. Thanks for stopping by and for linking. We need to take control back from the hands of self-serving politicians. Perhaps the need to kick them out of office “may be warranted”.

They needed a whole year to make a decision and they’re still late? What are they waiting for – maybe till there’s only 2 left like the giant soft-shelled turtles?

  2. Mickie – Don’t even get me (or my daughter) started on turtles and the help they need. I was trying so hard yesterday to explain to my 11 year old why the government is taking so long to make this decision on the Polar bears. I can’t figure it out for myself, much less explain it to her.

You can read about my daughter’s support of the turtles at my other site http://sewingmom.com/2008/01/10/world-wildlife-fund/
