Happy New Year!

December 31, 2007 on 4:44 pm | In My Imagination | No Comments

My imagination must have gone awry as I can’t believe the end of 2007 is upon us.  This has been a very weird year for my family and yet, it was a good year all in all.

For me, I think the best thing that happened was that I was introduced to the world of Blogging and most days, enjoy it very much.  I have met many wonderful people who have been kind enough to help me on my blogging journey and I look forward to meeting many more in 2008.

My immediate goal for this blog is to update its theme.  I hesitantly say I will be attempting to do this while a laze around in my pajamas tomorrow.  I say this with hesitation because I have attempted to change the theme on this site twice before, not with great results.  Third time is a charm so they say though, so I will give it a go.

Following the theme change I plan to get serious about increasing traffic on both of my sites.  I haven’t decided exactly how I’m going to go about this, but I am sure I will be once again looking to a few of my blogging mentors for advice and guidance in this area.

I look forward to 2008 and for all of you, I wish you a Happy New Year!

She’s Off

December 30, 2007 on 3:56 pm | In Family | 2 Comments

She’s off, my mother-in-law that is.  We took her to the airport this afternoon and her flight left about an hour ago.  I survived the week.

Actually, it wasn’t too bad.  She was in much better health than what we thought and was able to get around quite well.  I think that helped, her bedroom was upstairs and away from the rest of us.  She went to bed early and didn’t come down in the mornings until she heard us stirring.  She had her moments, but they weren’t too bad and we all got along.

Now that she’s gone I can get back to life as normal.  I’ve all ready started cleaning the guest room and bathroom.  Took a break and went scooter riding with my daughter.  It is such a beautiful day today.  Think I’ll do a bit more cleaning and then maybe even some sewing!  I love having my house back!  :-D

Daughter’s Gift

December 27, 2007 on 8:06 am | In Family | 3 Comments

My daughter got a really nice gift from Santa this year, a Razor electric Pocket Mod scooter. She had opened all of her gifts and was so happy, even though there was no scooter. She finally got around to her stocking hanging over the mantel and found a small stocking inside, with a note from Santa. The note sent her on a treasure hunt, around the house and in the back yard, eventually out to the front patio where she found her scooter, all covered in bows. It was fantastic. This video shows her in her pajamas having a blast. She wound up riding it most of the day. :-d

Christmas Lights

December 20, 2007 on 4:15 pm | In My Imagination | 6 Comments

I read a post earlier today about LED Christmas lights and Elizabeth, the author of that post, asked me if I had posted any pictures of my outdoor lights. I haven’t, although I did have some pictures on my camera, so I decided to post them here for all to see.

My daughter took these shots the other night. They’re not the best, but I think they’re not bad for our little digital camera! We have LED lights on the railings and the smaller bushes. This is our first Christmas in this house so we don’t have a lot of lights yet.  We’re going to be adding more lights over the next few years. As it was, we spent a couple hundred dollars this year, just on lights!

Husband Snooping via Blogs!

December 16, 2007 on 8:45 am | In Family | 6 Comments

I never even thought about it, but my husband has been reading my blogs.  Now, this alone is not a bad thing, I actually like that he has taken an interest in what I’m writing.  The bad thing at this time of year is that I’ve been writing about my Christmas shopping and now I think he might know what we bought him for his gift.  It just really never occurred to me to not write about it.  THUNK!  (That’s me thunking myself in the forehead!)

Well, besides his primary gift that I think he now knows about, we did buy him a few smaller items that he would never think of and that I haven’t written about.  So, there will be a few surprises under the tree for him.  :-D

What a Whirlwind of a Week!

December 15, 2007 on 8:19 am | In Crafting, My Imagination | 2 Comments

It’s been so busy over the past week, I feel like I need a day (or two) to catch up.  I’m way behind in my blog visiting, I feel like I’ve missed visiting my friends.  It was a good week though, even if it did mean less time on the computer.

My mom & sister made it to my house last Friday night and stayed until Tuesday.  We had so much fun while they were here, I definitely didn’t want them to leave.  We made a trip to a local quilt shop and we all bought fabrics, patterns and kits of all kinds.  Having them here got me motivated to sew again and you can see some of what I accomplished this week at Sewingmom.com my other site.

After they left I found myself trying to finish up the holiday shopping. I did quite a bit of it online, but I also had to go out to the stores. One night I took my daughter with me to buy the gifts for my husband That was a lot of fun because it’s really the first year that she’s been interested and given me her input on what to buy. Today she’s even going to wrap all the gifts that we bought him.

Yesterday I found myself drawn back to the quilt store we had visited earlier in the week. They were having their annual year-end sale and I just couldn’t resist. I bought so much fabric and fat quarters, mainly to make gifts, so I better get busy! I have to make a trip to another fabric store this afternoon to buy threads and zippers and I hope to spend the next few days sewing. I’m going to attempt to make a cute little over the shoulder bag for each of the 6 girls on my Destination Imagination team. Our last meeting before the holidays is this Thursday though, so I have to get busy if I’m going to get them all done.

Today I’m cleaning house and getting organized for what promises to be another busy week. My husband is returning tonight from his trip to Europe and I’m sure we’ll be staying home tomorrow which will give me a chance to sew. I’m actually looking forward to it!

My mother-in-law flies in next Saturday to spend the holidays with us, so I have to make sure I get all her gifts wrapped before she arrives.  I just finished putting the guest room back together, so that’s ready for her.  I have a feeling the next couple of weeks are going to fly by just as quickly as this last one did.

I’ll keep you posted on my sewing progress! :-D

Christmas Shopping

December 13, 2007 on 12:25 pm | In Some of This Some of That | 1 Comment

Well, I’ve been trying to finish up the Christmas shopping, but the last couple of items I want to buy seem to be sold out everywhere I go.  It’s very frustrating and I’m checking online too.  I’m running out of time, so it may be that those couple of items just aren’t under the tree this year.

My daughter and I went last night and bought my husband’s gifts.  I don’t know if he’ll be surprised, but for the first time in the almost 25 years I’ve known him he told me what he would like for Christmas!  And guess what?  I got it for him!  That’s so much easier than me trying to guess at what to get him.  I never get him the right thing, this was so much nicer and less stressful!  Although, I didn’t get him the exact item he was playing with at the store, I got him a slightly different model, but I did have my reasons for it and my daughter was very happy with our choice.

This is the first year that my daughter has been really into the shopping also.  She is 11 and she got her dad to go with her one night last week to buy my gift and then the 2 of us went last night for his gift.  It is fun to go together, I feel like she’s giving me really good input on the gift ideas.

I have to pick up a few teacher gifts, although I think we’re just going to give them gift cards.  I also have to pick up a few things for my mother-in-law who will be here for the holidays.  We bought her a digital picture frame and will pre-load photos on it for her.  That was a large expense, so I’m just looking for a few smaller, less expensive items to put under the tree and in her stocking.

So, I’m almost done, just a few odds & ends to finish up.  How’s your holiday shopping coming along?
